About
Dr. Ray Sheppard is an innovative educator and seasoned administrator with a career built around student success and educational accessibility in higher education. Born and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Ray brings a lifelong passion for history, higher education, and religious studies to everything he does.
He began his academic journey at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, before going on to complete a Master of Arts in Religion, a Master of Arts in History, and ultimately an Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership and Learning with Emerging Technologies from Abilene Christian University.
For more than 18 years, Ray has been a cornerstone of the academic community at Bladen Community College, where he currently serves as Director of Student Resources and Distance Learning while continuing to teach American History and Government. He also serves as an online adjunct Political Science instructor at College of the Albemarle, hosts the podcast History You Didn't Know, But Should, and writes a history-focused Substack — carrying his passion for teaching well beyond the classroom.
